The Bill (Reg. No. 2752) introduces a new reason for cancellation of a resolution on registration of Ukrainian citizenship, and extends the meaning of the concept "voluntary acquisition of citizenship".
Discussing the Bill, the Committee members stated that pursuant to the effective version of the Law, "only official address of a Ukrainian citizen with an appeal or petition for acquisition of a citizenship of another State is considered voluntary". However, in view of the actual situation with double citizenship in Ukraine, the Bill stipulates that persons are deprived of citizenship in case they obtain or use documents testifying the citizenship of another State.
Moreover, the People´s Deputies drew attention to the fact that a person who acquired foreign citizenship automatically could preserve Ukrainian citizenship until the documents testifying foreign citizenship were issued.
